Help That Truly Reaches Hearts

The 1€uro Sponsorship Program

Unique. Personal. Life-changing.

Step into the world of a child in Ethiopia and discover the beauty of connection. Through personal letter exchanges, you’ll get to know your sponsored child — their everyday challenges, joys, and dreams.

Your sponsorship builds a real relationship that touches both hearts — yours and theirs.

What the sponsored children need most of all

Prayer

Berhan School is a project that has become an ‘oasis in the desert’ thanks to the help of thousands of people who pray for it. Please pray regularly for your sponsored child, their family, the surrounding area and our work.

Personal contact

Your letters will be kept in a safe place by your sponsored child like a precious treasure. Your encouraging words will remain a cherished memory.

Education

Berhan School lays the foundation for an independent life. All teachers and staff members are guided by Jesus Christ, who set a perfect example of practising love through his life.

Monthly contribution

With your monthly contribution of 35 euros, you enable your sponsored child to attend school and receive medical and social care.

What makes us special

Children need love, security, warmth, affirmation, education and, last but not least, a home where they can be children. Our aim is to maintain direct contact with the sponsored children and their families in conjunction with our cooperation partner Noble Action and their social workers. The social workers inform us immediately of any dramatic changes or special assistance measures that may be necessary.

The process

Not only the children in Ethiopia, but also we are delighted about every new sponsorship. To make children's eyes light up and get your sponsorship off to a good start, please click on the green ‘Become a sponsor’ button. There you will find further information.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

1 €uro sponsorship – what's behind it?

A 1 €uro sponsorship is a regular, particularly sustainable, and personal form of support for children in Ethiopia (Monopol, Bole, and Adama), where you can experience how the child's life and environment are changing for the better through correspondence with your sponsored child. The sponsorship involves paying a monthly contribution for the child's welfare. The sponsored children continue to live in their familiar surroundings, but receive health and social support in addition to their school education.

1 €uro sponsorships – who is behind this?

1 €uro International is a small Christian association founded in 2007 in Trier/Mertesdorf, Germany, which is supported by the commitment of volunteers.  In cooperation with our Ethiopian partner Noble Action Holistic Development, we support the Berhan School and the sponsorship program in Monopol and the surrounding area as well as in Adama. For us as employees, Jesus Christ is at the center of our lives and actions.

Why are there 1 €uro sponsorships?

The sponsorship project was founded in 2012 to provide targeted support to children in particular need and to give interested donors the opportunity to get involved in the work by forming personal relationships with a child.

Where do the 1 €uro sponsorships work?

In Ethiopia, in the villages of Monopol and Bole. Both are located in the Nuraera district, about 180 km east of Addis Ababa. And in Adama, a city in central Ethiopia, 90 km from Addis Ababa. (Google Maps)

Can I actively participate in the sponsorship program?

The 1 €uro sponsorship is more than just financial support. We expect and hope that our sponsors and sponsor families are interested in maintaining contact with their sponsored child.

You can involve your sponsored child in your family by letter or email. It is possible to visit your sponsored child at your own expense. You can also take part in construction projects or leisure activities on site to visit your sponsored child. These visits can be arranged in consultation with our coordinator.

How can I become a sponsor?

Click on the “Become a sponsor” button for more information.

How long does a 1 €uro sponsorship last?

If the economic situation of the sponsored child and their family stabilizes to the point where they can support themselves, we remove the child from the program.

The sponsorship ends when a sponsored child leaves the Monopol, Bole, or Adama project area or completes school after grade 12.

How is the monthly sponsorship contribution used?
  • School education, including teaching materials and school uniforms
  • Medical care
  • Support from social workers
  • Training for parents on income-generating opportunities
  • Funding for NAHD teachers and staff
  • Administrative costs
Can I terminate a sponsorship?

A 1 €uro sponsorship does not have a minimum contract term and can be canceled at any time without giving reasons. This must be done in writing and will take effect at the end of the month following the month of cancellation, subject to our confirmation!

Can the 1 €uro sponsorship also be terminated by the association?

In the event of outstanding or irregular sponsorship contributions, 1 €uro Patenschaften reserves the right to terminate the sponsorship.

Can I provide additional financial support to my sponsored child?

You have the option of making a 13th monthly contribution—the gift contribution.
If you have indicated this, it will be debited from your account on December 5 of each year. It can also be transferred.
